INDIA: AICTE sponsored international conference on clinical research held in Vadodara - February 2018

The Times of India reported on 21st of January 2018 about the two-day international conference on “'Challenges, opportunities and newer directions of pharmacovigilance and clinical research in India' sponsored by the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE).

This international conference was recently organized at Parul Institute of Pharmacy of city-based Parul University (PU) recently. The conference focused on current status and future scopes of clinical research in India. More than eight nationally and internationally renowned speakers from clinical research background addressed 400 delegates, including academicians, research scientists and students from across the country on various topics covering clinical research. During the conference, total 29 oral and 92 scientific poster were presented and evaluated by international dignitaries.

PU's president Dr Devanshu Patel justified that the growth of clinical research field owing to the latest proactive steps taken by the government.

"For example, the Central Drugs Standard Control Organization (CDSCO) set up online licensing portal SUGAM in March 2016 for import and registration of drugs and medical devices, which has been extended to pharma companies to submit and apply for clinical trials as well," he said.

"CDSCO removed the restriction that did not allow investigators to conduct more than three clinical trials at any given period of time. Recently there is a revision in the mandatory requirement and now clinical trials can also be carried out at sites that have less than 50 hospital beds," he added.
